Canterbury Summer Sports Tournament 2011

Next Thursday, at Southbrook Park, North Canterbury Schools are gathering to compete in Volleyball, Tee-Ball and Touch Rugby. Our school is sending some students from Year Six, Seven and Eight for Touch Rugby. Transport has been organised for both groups. Thanks to the parents that have offered to help!

A Message From the Parish

Fr Michael has been running a programme for Catholics and non-Catholics alike to explore and deepen their understanding of the Catholic Faith. If you are a Catholic, it is a good opportunity to deepen the understanding of your faith. If you are a non-Catholic, this is an opportunity to find out more about the Catholic faith without being pressured to become one. This is especially valuable for parents who are not Catholics who have children at our school. There is no commitment to becoming a Catholic by attending these sessions – however at some stage, those who want to, may indicate so. We have been meeting on Sunday nights and it will include a field trip (day) somewhere to visit a religious order.

Essentially we will meet several times this year, and have a break in September when Fr Michael is on annual leave. We will continue after that, and then reduce the frequency in the busy months near the end of the year.

If you are not sure, come to our “Introductory evening” on Sunday, 7^th August at 7.00pm to find out more. There will be finger food and refreshments provided. (Please RSVP by 3^rd August so that we can provide enough food!). Those who attended last year will be present to share their experiences with you . Contact Fr Michael 3278600 or Marg Rosie: 3270876

Every year we have a Red Nose Day and we have a lot of fun. We can buy red noses and jaffas and last year we had a challenge against the teachers. If we raised $300 they had to wear red noses all lunch time. This year we get to play guitar hero at lunch.

High School Visit

On Wednesday the 8th of June, Totara went on their last High School visit. This time we were experimenting with Carbon Dioxide and how it effects different types of liquid. Then after that, we looked at the PH scale. We made acid water and acidic water. It was really interesting. I hope we can go again in the future it is really worth while.

24 Hour Famine Sleep Over

On the 28th of May, some friends in Totara had a sleep over to celebrate the 40 hour famine. Some people, such as Bobbi, did the whole 40 hours but most of us did the 24 hour famine. We did many things like: making a human sandwich in between the air beds, watching some movies, having a massive pillow fight and dressing up as fairies (we got the fairy wings from doing a mall challenge). This was the most fun sleep over I have had.
